It's the day before the 4th, and if you're like me, you're starting to think about what you're going to rock at tomorrows' celebrations. Do you go all out and sport red, white, and blue head to toe? Do you wear all white? What's the best way to show your patriotism without being a cliche? We asked one of our favorite Washington DC stylists Erika Schrieber to give us the answer.
On a day like Independence Day (and any holiday that is strictly themed by color) the chances of looking more costume-y thanpatriotically pulled together are considerably greater than any other day. Hence, the Fortique crew summoned yours truly to dig deep in to Fourth of July fashion. I've rounded up some subtle looks for any event that will help you pull off patriotic without looking like Old Glory with limbs - I mean I love her as much as the next girl, but no need to knock off her stars & stripes. Add all-American accents like cherry red nails, star studded earrings, or neutral navy wedges!
Backyard BBQ - Try this Flynn Skye for Free People Nautical Stripe Maxi! Give the summer staple maxi a nautical twist, accessorize with a group of chunky metals as arm candy, top it with a fedora, and you've got casual effortless glamour for a backyard BBQ with your best homies.
Beach Bound - Take nautical stripes from BBQ to beachside with an on-trend teeny bikini. Cover up with a lightweight white tunic dress and give yourself a pop of color with a printed beach tote. Cherry lip gloss required. Star or anchor necklace strongly encouraged.
Play Day - If you've got mini me's, it can be a challenge to channel your inner fashionista on the Fourth. Take it from my girl Daniela at Nany's Klozet - try a lightweight chambray top & white lace shorts. Throw on some gladiator sandals & ray bans for an ultra-cool Momlook.
If you still need some more advice on what to wear or any other fashion tips, contact Erika for a free 30 minute consultation. She even offers a service called "EmergenStyle" - last minute styling help for a special event.
Happy early 4th of July!
